| Abstract/Contents: | "Climate and wear are factors that influence the persistency and recovery of grass species. How do sport turf mixtures perform after 3 years under continental conditions? Which are the key species and varieties and what are the optimum seed ratios for wear tolerance and recovery? The aim of these trials was to search for the best mixture composition under dry continental climate conditions in year 1, 2 and 3 as well as considered over the whole trial period. Three year performance trials were conducted at Hohenheim University which is close to Stuttgart Airport in Echterdingen, Germany (latitude 48.7°N; altitude 396 m a.s.l.). The local climate is continental with average temperatures in January 0°C, in April 9°C, in July 18°C and in October 9°C. Precipitation rate amounts to 650 mm a year and 80 days of frost can usually be expected." |
