Abstract/Contents: | Reports that United States Environmental Protection Agency researchers Linda Exum and Sandra Bird "developed a tool to rapidly estimate the amount of impervious cover and the quality of nearby waterways," and that "numerous studies have shown a multitude of negative impacts on watersheds when impervious cover reaches 10 percent or more." Briefly details the development of the estimation practice and futures for its development and concludes that "by better understanding the detrimental effects of impervious cover and offering these kinds of new tools to planners and developers, future areas...can develop without creating a sea of impervious cover." |
