| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study conducted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station at Rutgers University to evaluate bentgrass cultivar performance "over several years and locations in the areas of intended use." Details the procedures used in the study, stating that "[the bentgrass seedings] consisted of two tests; one to simulate greens conditions on unmodified, native soil and the other to approximate fairway conditions...Plots were evaluated frequently during the growing season for overall turf quality." Reports that "quality ratings show that many of the newly developed creeping bentgrass cultivars are better adapted to fairway conditions in New Jersey." Concludes that "results from the 1989 greens trial indicate that the performance of many of the newer creeping bentgrass cultivars was better than many of the older cultivars based on a 5-year quality average under New Jersey growing conditions." |
