Abstract/Contents:Discusses fungicide programs as they apply to the preparation of golf courses for winter. Focuses on pink snow mold and gray snow mold, noting that "pink snow mould [mold], or Microdochium nivale, is by far the most prevalent as it can form in periods of cool, wet weather and does not require a snow cover to develop." Details several types of gray snow mold, noting the three primary types as Typhula incarnata, Typhula phacorrhiza, and Typhula ishikariensis. Mentions two less-common diseases, cottony snow mold (Coprinus psychromorbidus) and snow scald Myriosclerotinia borealis), which were found "in western Canada in the '60s and '70s when snow depths were much greater." Encourages early application of fungicides, reporting that "our research found that many of the effective products (or tank mixes) could be applied well before permanent snow cover and still provide good control." Mentions that the responsibility for the registration of new products and tank mixes lies with the Pesticide Management Regulatory Agency, suggesting that "the trend is [moving] toward the registration of tank mixes for snow mould control."
