Abstract/Contents: | SUMMARY:"The present investigation consisted of two different experiments. Experiment I was carried out at the Akita Prefectural College of Agriculture in 1987 to study the effects of a fungicide and growth promoters on the rate of seedling establishent. Experiment II was conducted at the Ohmori Golf Course of the Ugo Country Club in 1987 to ascertain the practicality of using this propagation method for zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica Steud.) seed originating from Korea. Results from these two experiments were in agreement. In general, higher rates of seedling establishment were achieved with Hydroxy isoxazole (3-hydroxy-5-Methyl-isoxazole: TACHIGAREN) application, and increased shoot elongation, numbers of leaves and tillers, and longer roots were produced on plots treated with Menadione Sodium Bisulfite (ACCEROOT) and calcium compounds (CaO2, 32%: Ca(OH)2, 34%; CaCO3, 34%: NEOCALOXO). As far as the results from these experiments are concerned, it can be concluded that the use of the seeding techniques with vinyl-cover, and soil treatments with siduron (TACHIGAREN) and growth promoters (ACCEROOT and NEOCALOXO), zoysiagrass can be rapidly and easily propagated from seed on golf courses or playgrounds." |
