Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the difficulties greenkeepers face when managing sea-washed turf on bowling greens, explaining the high probability of weed invasion and the controversy in the appropriate watering time. Indicates that "old established bowling greens present problems peculiar to themselves" because new turf may need to be cultivated in the bare areas where weeds were eradicated or may not have enough surface drainage when they "have not been pierced sufficiently." Concludes that young greenkeepers are being educated on how to manage bowling greens, adding that "the day is past when the care of bowling greens laid with expensive turf can be left to amateur gardeners." |
