Abstract/Contents: | Addresses the process of manual irrigation, suggesting that "there are certain general principles which must be followed if the maximum benefit from watering is to be obtained." Discusses various soil characteristics in regards to how they react with dry weather. Indicates that "the appearance of turf during dry periods will often vary from one square yard to another." Provides recommendations to ensure maximum results from watering, suggesting that "the soil should be examined at various points, and watering commenced immediately." Stresses the importance of watering sufficiently, indicating that turf is not appropriately watered if "only the surface soil becomes moist...[which] encourages shallow rooted plants." Recommends piercing the soil to ensure deep penetration of water and watering "for uninterrupted periods of 5-6 hours." |
