| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study conducted in Tucson, Arizona during 1970 "to investigate varietal differentials in response to nitrogen and to characterize long-term effects of differing nitrogen treatments." Details the methods and materials used during three separate experiments, noting that each involved "combinations of a non-fertilized check, one pound of nitrogen per 1000 ft2 [square feet] per month and two pounds of nitrogen per 1000 ft2 per month applied in ammonium sulphate." Reports that decreased root weights between one- and two-pound nitrogen levels were found in each test, to varying degrees. Provides seven tables that highlight clipping yield, chlorophyll content, and root weight, among other factors. Concludes that "although there were varietal differences and apparent trends related to nitrogen treatments, in neither test [1 or 3] was the variety by nitrogen interaction significant." |
