Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted in Tucson, Arizona during 1969-70 to determine potentially effective means of controlling green June beetle (Cotinis mutabilis) larvae. Details methods and materials used during the experiment, noting that "[a] manure application was made during the first week of July, and attracted green June beetle adults, since they prefer to lay their eggs in manure of decaying organic matter." Reports that "both treatments [carbofuran and aldicarb] caused the larvae to emerge from the soil. The larvae were lying on the ground either dead or paralyzed." Concludes that "both carbofuran and aldicarb are highly toxic to warm-blooded animals and are at the present date [1970] not recommended for use on home lawns."
