| Abstract/Contents: | "A questionnaire survey was conducted to gather information on synthetic turf soccer and hockey pitches in the United Kingdom. The majority of the surfaces were satisfactory but a significant number of operators reported problems with their pitches. The survey revealed that 21.4% of pitches had noticeable dips, hollows and rises on their surface. In addition, more than one in ten operators had experienced unfavorable comments from players on the quality of surface levels. Drainage on all the pitches was adequated under moderate rainfall but 17% of the pitches did not drain quickly under very heavy rain. One operator reported severe frost heaving requiring complete reinstatement of the sub-base and several respondents commented on problems of seam failure." |
