Abstract/Contents:"This study was conducted to make clear on plant production, water purification and gardening effect in brackish water area by floating culture of umbrella plant. From the experiment, it was made clear that 1) plant production in growing period was about 20 - 28g/m2/day, 2) water purification and gardening effects were higher beyond expectation, 3) the plant roots were used for food of some fishes living in the area, 4) the vegetation on float was used for nest of wild bird. From these results, it is able to say that floating culture of umbrella plant contributes to improvement of ecosystem in brackish water area. Moreover, it is estimated from the data that suitable floating culture area to improve eutrophication of Sayohimeiwa pond at present is about 300-400m2 to total pond area 6000m2."
