Abstract/Contents:Discusses golf course management with regard to sustainability, suggesting that "sustainability is unquestionably in society's mindset today." States that "golf courses preserve soil with their complete and permanent vegetation. Golf courses also preserve land in urban environments which otherwise would be given over to buildings." Provides a table detailing the sustainability of several aspects of golf course management. Mentions the possible dependence of charity organizations on golf for their sustainability, reporting that "of the U.S. [United States] golf industry's annual $76 billion economic impact, an estimated $3 billion is for charity." Concludes that "golf may be one of the most sustainable types of operations we have going for us in terms of environmental, economic, and social sustainability."
