| Abstract/Contents: | Reports on a cultivar evaluation conducted to asses the quality and dollar spot susceptibility of 40 different Kentucky bluegrass cultivars. Details the method and materials used in the study, stating that "the plots (4 x 12 ft.) were split for three rates of nitrogen, 2, 4 and 6 lb. N/1000 sq. ft./yr," applied in four equal applications and mowed at 2 inches "with clipping returned and irrigated as needed to prevent wilt." Reports quality ratings of the 40 cultivars over seven months in Table 1, with Majestic and Columbia among the highest quality at 2 lb. and Kimono and Glade among the highest quality at 6 lb, noting in Table 2 that the quality ratings "for each fertility showing a wide range of response." Notes that in the summer of 1980 a Sclerotinia dollar spot infestation occurred throughout the plots, with Nugget and Birka amond the most susceptible cultivars at any nitrogen level, with all cultivars evaluated in Table 3. Concludes that cultivar ranking and disease severity was similar between both the two and four pound rate, "however, at the highest nitrogen rate (6 lb.), disease severity was noticably reduced for all but most resistant cultivars." |
