| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the potential consequences of "required reciprocity" in membership within the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA), a structural change within the organization that required nationally associated members to join local chapters, and local chapter members to join the national association. Suggests that while initially the rule was practical and promoted cohesion within the organization, "the golf economy began to sag and facility budgets really got hit hard in 2008 and 2009...Paying both local and national dues was tough." Warns that dual affiliation in both chapters may cost the GCSAA "the very folks we wanted to bring into the fold," as membership dropped approximately fifteen percent in the period between 2008 and 2010. |
