Abstract/Contents:"This evaluation was conducted at Sentryworld Golf Course in Stevens Point, WI on a creeping bentgrass fairway maintained at a height of 0.5 in. Individual plots measured 3 ft x 10 ft, and were arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Individual treatments were applied at a nozzle pressure of 40 p.s.i using a CO2-pressurized boom sprayer equipped with two XR Teejet 8004 VS nozzles. All fungicides were agitated by hand and applied in the equivalent of 2 gallons of water per 1,000 ft2. Two applications were made in the fall of 2009; the early treatments were applied on 16 Oct 09; and the late treatments were applied on 6 Nov 09. Natural infection was allowed to occur, and there was continuous snow cover on the plots from early December 2009 to mid March 2010, a total of approximately 100 days. Disease severity and color were recorded on 24 Mar 09. Data were subjected to an analysis of variance, and means were separated using the Student-Newman-Keuls test (P = 0.05). Although all three major snow mold diseases were observed, the dominant pathogens causing damage were Typhula ishikariensis and Typhula incarnata. Disease pressure was high at this site as non treated controls averaged 89.5% disease. All treatments with the exception of Emerald 0.13 oz + Iprodione Pro 2.0 fl oz, Emerald 0.13 oz + Iprodione Pro 3.0 fl oz, and Curalan EG 1.0 oz provided a significant reduction in disease severity compared to the non treated control. Due to the high pressure, 10 of 35 treatments failed to provide acceptable suppression (<5% disease) of Typhula blight. Despite the disease pressure, 13 treatments provided complete disease suppression while 11 more provided acceptable levels of control. Differences in plot color and quality were also observed, though most products that provided excellent disease control provided statistically similar quality and color. One exception was the treatment with the PCNB-containing Turfcide 400 10.0 fl oz, which caused a slight discoloration that recovered within two weeks of snow melt."
