Abstract/Contents:Assessed soil and plant leaf analysis in providing guidance in developing potassium (K) and phosphorus (P) fertilization programs. Conducted on a year old established Alta tall fescue planting whose appearance indicated nitrogen and possible P deficiency but no K deficiency. Soil analysis prior to treatment indicated marginal P content (5 to 8 ppm) but adequate K (> 900 ppm). [#1]. Average P (P2O5) and K (K2O) content as percent of dry leaf weight indicated the level of leaf P in the check treatment was marginal (0.35%). [#2]. Concluded leaf content of P and K agreed with predicted availability of the soil supply. Thus, soil and plant leaf analysis can be useful in developing the correct P and K fertilization program.
