Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst to "(i) evaluate perennial ryegrass wear tolerance and recovery in response to N [nitrogen] and K [potassium] and (ii) identify plant mechanisms and soil exchangeable K levels associated with maximum wear tolerance in this species." Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that "all treatments are applied by hand and watered in with 0.5 inch of water." Reports that "based on differential slip wear (DSW), only 2 of the 15 N-K treatment combinations provided acceptable wear tolerance." Concludes that "maximum recovery and wear tolerance from DSW injury was optimum when perennial ryegrass was fertilized with 5 lb. N/1000ft2/yr [five pounds of nitrogen per 1000 square feet applied per year] regardless of the K level applied."
