Abstract/Contents:Evaluated phytotoxic effects of Agribrom (2-bromo-3-chloro-5, 5-dimethyl-2, 4-imidazilidinedione) a potential turf algicide. Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (manufacturers) produced preliminary fine granular formulations containing 10, 20, and 50% active ingredient. Consan 20, another potential algicide containing quaternary ammonium, was included in some trials. Trials on Bentgrass Nursery at Nakoma Golf Course, Madison. Test 1: 2g (one-half of rate labeled for floriculture crops) of Agribrom 20 and 50% formulations dusted on wet turf. Distinct while spots resulted within 24 hours of application apparently due to inability to uniformly disperse the granular product. Test 2: Agribrom applied as in test 1 but due to dry turf with more uniform dispersal. Consan 20 treatment was at 1.7ml/14 oz H2O by spraying. Applied June 30th following application, half of each treatment was moistened. By July 4th no injury was recorded. Test 3: Replicated trial using spray or dust/drenched in application of Agribrom formulations or spray application of Consan 20. Spray application of Agribrom was well tolerated and provided the most attractive turf, although differences were not strikingly better than untreated plots. No obvious pathogen/algae activity was present. Dust application appeared too risky as killed turf resulted too often. Spray application of Consan 20 resulted in unacceptable phytotoxicity without permanent damage to turf.
