Abstract/Contents:Discusses considerations on choosing the right lawngrass cultivars for a yard. Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis) is often the lawngrass of choice, but in less than ideal situations suggests sowing a seed mix that contains several lawngrass species is often the most practical choice. Gives an in-depth view of which mix of Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, tall fescues or fine-leaved fescues cultivars is right for which situation including a discussion on nursegrasses, aesthetics, overseeding, repair, color, soil conservation, quick cover, and some adverse conditions such as wear, disease, compaction, drought, shade, low-maintenance, and limited water. Gives information on where to obtain advice about which lawngrass cultivars will do best in each situation including national hotlines and county extension agents.
