| Abstract/Contents: | "The development of a "slide chart" watering guide for St. Augustinegrass (Stenotophrum secundatum (Walt.)Kuntze) lawns in south Florida is documented. The "slide chart" method was chosen as it packages guidelines in easily usable form and is practical for homeowner application. This guide is distributed by the South Florida Water Management District and represents a standard irrigation scheduling method. In the development of this guide the Penman equation was used to estimate the daily evapotranspiration (ET) rate for St. Augustinegrass lawns in south Florida with 80% probability of non-exceedence. This rate of ET was then applied to a soil water balance to determine the irrigation schedule. Soil water holding capacity, irrigation system application rate, and irrigation system application efficiency were used to determine irrigation duration. Methodology is presented for measuring existing sprinkler system application rate." |
