Abstract/Contents:Reports on current research and marketing trends for several turfgrass species and discusses what proprietary turfgrasses mean to seed marketers. Research trends emphasized are seed priming in Kentucky bluegrass; lack of breeding effort for Canadian bluegrass; seeded, cold tolerant types of bermudagrass; winter overseeding of perennial ryegrass; and a seeded zoysia grass which is cold tolerant and will establish quickly. Provides detailed information on research on turf-type tall fescue including development of varieties resistant to brown patch, increasing yield, development of dwarf varieties, seed priming, and improving quality. Also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of having several proprietary varieties on the market for each species. Concludes environmentally compatible varieties will continue to grab the market share and that turfgrass research and development are in place to answer that need.
