| Abstract/Contents: | "An ecotype analysis was made to determine the genetic variability of Achillea millefolium, Daucus carota, Pimpenella saxifraga and Sanguisorba minor. Plant material from 10 locations per species and commercial seed types were compared. On the basis of the differences found, various ecotypes could be described. The differences between the commercial seed types and the wild forms were sometimes considerable. This is partly because the commerical types are sometimes of foreign origin or are foreign species. In general, the ecotype analysis showed that, for sowing low fertility meadows with low maintenance requirement, the wild forms can provide more suitable types than the commercial seed. These types should be used as basic seed to give naturally-adapted material." The differing responses of the above mentioned grasses are notated in some detail, especially comparing the wild versus the commercial varieties. |
