Abstract/Contents: | "In this paper a field trial comparing several chemical treatments for their effects on earthworm casting is described. Initially, all treatments except sulphur inhibited earthworm casting to a greater extent than chlordane. However, the present study indicates that none of the chemicals tested were as effective in the long term as chlordane for the inhibition of earthworm castin. Chelated iron, applied to turf for its acidifying properties, reduced casts in the long term to a greater extent than carbaryl and thiophanate-methyl/y-HCH, which are currently standard turf treatments for inhibition of earthworm casting." |
