Abstract/Contents:Cotula dioica and C. maniototo are used, separately or in combination. A good early season running speed (14-18 s) is more easily achieved on cotula than on grass and winter play is practical. Rain has little effect on running speed. Establishment is rapid, end wear less common, a very uniform surface can be achieved and renovation costs are low. Vegetative material is used for establishment and renovation so that care must be taken not to introduce weeds and pests. Weed control is difficult compared with grass. Recommendations are made on mowing and manuring (about 50 kg sulphate of ammonia per green, annually). The selection and breeding of superior strains are foreseen.
