Abstract/Contents:Details the nature of ectotrophic root infecting fungi (ETRI), specifically take-all patch and summer patch. Explains causes and effects of these fungi and suggests methods of fungal control and prevention. Explains that, once "ETRI fungi have colonized turfgrass roots, there is little we can do to suppress the disease." Emphasizes the potential importance in applying preemergent control herbicides, as well as preventive cultural methods. Noes that "if summer patch has been a problem, then it is likely there are issues with drainage and compaction at the site."
