| Abstract/Contents: | "The definition and calculation of cost-effectiveness of outdoor sports provision adopted by local authorities is reviewed, and the management of such facilities within certain specified districts is compared. Positive attempts appear to have been made by these authorities towards increasing the effectiveness of sports provision although the scale and success of implementation has been varied. It is concluded, that to provide value for money, high quality sports experience and availablility in a pleasant environment should be offered. Emphasis is placed upon obtaining maximum use by upgrading existing facilities in relation to the catchment area and implementing dual-use and joint-provision schemes, together with shared management, marketing and promotion. Methods of optimising increased usage through preferential pricing policies and fund raising are also examined." |
