| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the occurrence of chinch bugs in Wisconsin. Explains that the common chinch bug destroyed hundreds of thousands wheat acres that forced farmers in Wisconsin to produce alternative agricultural crops. Describes the similarities and differences between the common chinch bug and hairy chinch bug. Notes that chinch bug damage is most often detected when irregular patches of turf turn yellow or brown. Mentions that the feeding of the chinch bugs cuts off the feeding vessels of the plants that results in death. States that "chinch bugs are relatively easy to manage if they are detected early! However, once they have fed, the damage is done and it is essentially too late to circumvent turf damage." Provides chinch bug management options and lists insecticides. |
