| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the biological control of gypsy moths (Lymantria dispar) and emerald ash borers (Agrilus planipennis) by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. States that "biocontrol will be one management tool integrated with other treatments such as the biopesticide Btk [Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki] and mating disruption." Suggests that biological control organisms may be the only option for wide-spread control of the insects, and concludes that "we work to prevent the spread of these pests by regulating the movement of targeted wood products such as firewood (potential vector), training First Detectors to identify infestations in early stages, and educating communities and the public about [gypsy moths and emerald ash borers]." |
