Abstract/Contents:"Sixty two samples of sands commonly used in rootzone constructions for sports turf in the United Kingdom were analysed for pH and calcium carbonate content along with extractable phosphate, potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron and copper. The majority of sands appeared to be deficient in phosphate and potassium for plant growth; around half were deficient in magnesium and copper, but almost all contained sufficient levels of calcium and iron. Sands with higher contents of fine material tended to contain higher concentrations of extractable nutrients."
