| Abstract/Contents: | Many of the problems of the diseases are caused by fungi and nematodes, but others are caused by management and/or environmental factors. An accurate diagnosis is the first and most important factor in the control of turfgrass diseases. Tall fescue diseases include; brown patch, Helminthosporium net blotch, rust, and drought and heat. Common diseases of bluegrass are Helminthosporium, red thread, rust, southern blight, and dollar spot. The most serious problem on ryegrass is Pythium blight but, others like brown patch, red thread, Helminthosproium diseases, dollar spot, and rust occur also. Spring dead spot, nematodes, and dollar spot the the major problems of bermudagrasses. Other problems on all types of turfgrasses include fairy rings, slime molds, algae, and soil compaction. These diseases and other problems can be diagnosed by using descriptions given in publications and soil samples should be taken regularly. |
