Abstract/Contents:Evaluated 38 tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) cultivars and lines for crown rust (Puccinia coronata) tolerance in a low maintenance situation. The grass was managed for seed and fall forage production. Cultivars and lines were established in plots 9 Aug 84 on Spindletop Research Farm near Lexington. Tall fescue cultivars were grown in 6x20 ft plots replicated 4 times in a randomized complete block design. The plots were fertilized annually in the fall and they were not irrigated and no fungicides were used. Disease and forage-yield was evaluated on 25 Oct 85. Seven of the entries consisted of endophyte-infected grass. Rust ratings (1 to 7; 1=no rust; 7=rust pustules crowded on leaf and infected leaves yellow) and forage yield are provided in a table. The correlation coefficient (r) for association of leaf rust and forage dry matter yield was-0.214. Rust ratings ranged from 1.0 (several cultivars) to 6.0 (4-731 + 55-5).
