| Abstract/Contents: | 1982 update of 4 tests to evaluate tall fescue varieties under Kentucky climatic conditions. Test 1, established 9/76, includes 10 cultivars with 3 replications at 2 cutting heights, no irrigation and 3 lb N/1000 sq ft/yr. during fall and early winter. A table provides 1977-82 annual and 6-year average visual qualtiy ratings (1 to 9;9=best quality). With significant differences (SD) indicated for 1982. 6-year average ratings ranged from 5.9 (Momm Fa-8) to 7.4 (Rebel). Test 2, established 9/78, is included in the Southern Regional Tall Fescue Test with 19 varieties maintained the same as those in test 1. A table provides 1979-82 annual and 4-year average visual quality ratings with SD indicated for 1982. 4-year average ratings ranged from 5.0 (Goar) to 7.6 (Rebel). Test 3, established 9/79, consists of 30 varieties including a group of experimentals from the breeding program of Dr. R. C. Buckner. These plots have been maintained at a 2 1/2-inch height with 1 1/2 lb. of N per 1000 sq. ft. per year. Data includes 1982 average visual quality ratings and density and percent of tall fescue fillers with SD indicated. T-6 (Rebel) and NJ-78 (Falcon) gave best overall performance. Test 4, established 9/82, consists of 46 named and experimental varieties with 3 replications at 1" and 3" heights. 3 lb. N/1000 sq. ft./yr will be applied annually. Quality ratings will be made in 1983. |
