| Abstract/Contents: | Provides suggestions on how to redirect life after being fired from a job. Gives the statistics for job firings for golf course superintendents, and says that "age and experience are liabilities. Youth, energy, and a lower price tag are attractive" when looking at applicants within the field. Lists factors that are considered as major 'job killers': poor communication, replacement as a result of searching for the next level, the crossfire of club politics, individuals who view themselves as the highest power, general managers trying to make a name for themselves, blinders, complacency and boredom, being overlooked, taking on too many special projects during in-season, employee mismanagement or misuse, mismanagement of resources, substance abuse, having a bad attitude, or having conflicts with other departments. Describes the warning signs that signal termination is coming, and explains that it can't be predicted, and suggests to prepare for it. Evaluates options you can use to avoid job termination. Discusses how to prepare yourself financially so that your budget is stable until a new job becomes available. Explains what to do with the news once it has been handed to you, to negotiate proper severance, and how to handle the emotional aspect that comes with losing a job. Recommends that you become comfortable with your new job status, and to make the best of the bad situation until something new rolls around. |
