| Abstract/Contents: | Research plots representing three sodding times (mid-summer - August 1987, fall - October 1987, and spring - May 1988) have been established. The site preparation treatments represent a range from low to high intensity. Evaluation of the treatments has included the degree of stress/death and speed of recovery. The higher intensity site preparations result in less stress/death and more rapid recovery in new sod. Differences in the mid-summer sodded plots among all but the lowest intensity treatment had disappeared by 17 days after resodding. Fall sodding is clearly ideal, as no stress was apparent in any of the treatments, all survived the winter equally well and performed equally well through the summer of 1988. Under high maintenance conditions, it appears that even sodding over low intensity site preparation in adverse spells of weather may result in acceptable medium term results. The relative long term success (overwintering) is not completely clear, and short term browning from stress may make low intensity site preparation an unattractive alternative. |
