Abstract/Contents:"Good to excellent control of dandelion, clover, plantain and other broadleaf weeds was provided with a premix formulation CONFRONT2 (0.75 lb/gal of clopyralid and 2.25 lb/ha of triclopyr) at 1.5 pt/A of in turf (Proc. Northeast. Weed Sci. Soc. 43:105-6). To increase the application flexibility of this product efficacy data are presented on the combination of 0.25 total lb/A (2/3 pt/A) of the premix and 1.0 - 1.5 lb/A of 2,4-D or MCPA on broadleaf weeds in turf. All the tests were conducted in Geneva, New York. In 1988 the same trial was conducted at two locations, site A (Seneca Lake Country Club) and B (Glenwood Cemetery). At site A the predominant weed species were white clover (Trifolium repens L.), narrow leaf plantain(Plantago lanceolata L.), dandelion (Taraxacum officinale Weber in Wiggers) and healall (Prunella vulgaris L.) and at site B were white clover, healall and ground-ivy (Glechoma hedeacea L.). In 1989 two separate studies were conducted at site C (Seneca Lake Country Club) and the predominant weeds were white clover and dandelion. Each study was set up in a randomized complete block design with four replications of each treatment. The plots were 3 x 15 ft with a one foot check (untreated) strip separating each plot. Treatments were applied with a CO2 backpack sprayer equipped with three 8004 LP TeeJet (Spray Systems Company, Chicago, IL) nozzles spaced 12 inches apart, held 9 inches above the ground and operated at 15 p.s.i. and 2.5 mph to deliver 79.2 gal/A. At sites A and B the treatments were applied on 4 August and the plots were rated on 30 September, 1988. At site C treatmetns for both studies were applied on 17 May and rated on 15 June and 21 July 1989. Percent control of each applied species was determined by comparing the plot area to the two adjacent check strips. At sites A and B triclopyr (0.125 lb/A) and 2,4-D (1.25 lg/A) or MCPA (1.56 lb/A) were tank mixed with 264, and 4/64 lb/A of clorpyralid. At site C triclopyr were tank mixed with 0.5 and 1.0 lb/A of 2,4-D, respectively, in test 1 and 0.625 and 1.25 lb/A of MCPA, respectively, in test 2. In each trial commercially avalilable for comparison. In 1988 at sites A and B all the combination of clopyralid, triclopyr, and 2.4-D or MCPA provided commercially acceptable control (90-100%) of white clover, ground-ivy, dandelion, buckhorn planitain, and healall, equal to that of the commercial premix formulations. In 1989 the addition of 2.4-D (1.0 lb/A) or MCPA (1.25 lb/A) to 0.25 lb ai/A of the premix (clopyralid and triclopyr) provided equivalent control of white clover and dandelion to the commercial premix standards of 2,4-D & triclopyr and 2,4-D & MCPP & dicamba."
