| Abstract/Contents: | "Each year turf managers are confronted with a succession of familiar turfgrass diseases and the list of fungal pathogens is a formidable one. Periodically new diseases are reported (or a known turf disease is reported in a new location) prompting the query as to how and why this can happen...Yellow tuft and Ophiobolus patch are two diseases which illustrate some points discussed above. Yellow tuft is a well documented but incorrectly diagnosed disease. Only recently has it been established that the causal agent is a common and widely distributed fungus (2,4,5). Ophiobolus patch disease of turf, long known in Europe (7), is a relative newcomer to the American scene although the causal fungus is no stranger to the U.S. First reported in western Washington in 1961 (1), the disease recently appeared in the New England area (3)."
