Abstract/Contents:Aiming to dispell the common misconception that golf courses are harmful to the environment, the author compares the maintenance practices of golf courses with that of agricultural sites. Providing general data of the total amount of land which receives intense maintenance, as well as the amounts of fertilizers and other assorted chemicals used by both areas, the author demonstrates that golf courses affect a far smaller area of land to a far lesser extent than the average agricultural area. In addition, information is provided pertaining to the movements of nutrients within the soil, demonstrating that the nutrients used by golf courses are not prone to infiltrate deeper layers of the soil and affect the ground water.
