| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the emergence of the emerald ash borer (EAB) in Minnesota and the problems it has created. Explains that the growth rate of the trees will "increase exponentially and we will have thousands of trees dying each year for several years until the ash population is so reduced that the number of dying trees goes back down." States that EAB is one of the easiest pests to treat by either treating them with chemicals or cutting the trees down. Describes different ways to be proactive about preventing EAB. Notes that "removals will absolutely be part of every EAB management plan and treatments should be part of them as well." Addresses three ways to potentially protect trees from EAB using active ingredients (A.I.): tree injection using the A.I. emmectin benzoate, soil application at the base of the tree using imidacloprid or dinotefuran, or applying a bark spray. |
