Abstract/Contents: | Summarizes the career of John Philp, who began work at the Pitreavie club in Dunfermline, then worked at Newmarket Golf Course and St. Andrews before moving to Carnoustie Golf Links in 1985. States that when Philp began his work at Carnoustie, the course had fallen into a state of disrepair after hosting the Open in 1975, and that under his direction the course was turned around, and went on to host the Open Championship two more times, as well as numerous other championship tournaments. Notes that Philp has performed similar restorations on the Burnside and Buddon courses as well. Describes Philps' involvement as a speaker and trainer, having been a speaker at numerous conferences and given presentations at Elmwood College, as was as having trained many staff during his time at Carnoustie, many of whom have become Course Managers of their own courses. |
