| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the issues that Asian Longhorn Beetles (Anoplophora glabripennis) are causing in the United Kingdom. States the the beetle is able to eat many different types of trees and can spread quickly from tree to tree, killing their host trees along the way. Details quarantine efforts by the government and contractors, who are chopping down and burning susceptible trees within a 100 meter radius around any discovered site of infestation. Notes that no golf courses have yet been affected by the beetle, and that they would cause huge amounts of damage to a course. States that estimates for monetary damage and control have come out to hundreds of billions of dollars. |
