| Abstract/Contents: | "Fungicide plots were established in a commercial bluegrass field in Nez Perce county, Idaho where Puccinia spp. was known to naturally occur. Fungicides were applied to 6 ft. by 20 ft. plots in 25 gallons of water per acre using a CO/2 powered sprayer with 8003 flat fan nozzles. Plots received two applications of either Bravo 720, ASC66811EC, ASC66792DG, or ASC66792FL. Applications were made at either Fekes stage 8 and 10.1 (14 and 17 May) or at stages 10.1 and 10.5 (17 May and 15 June). Additionally, applications of Tilt fungicide were made at all three Fekes stages (4 and 17 May, 15 June). Treatments were replicated 4 times in a randomized complete block design. Visual ratings of percent leaf rust on the flag leaf were made on June 27, 12 days following the last fungicidal application at Fekes stage 10.5 (15 June.) Results showed that a moderate level of leaf rust overwintered at the plot site. Above average spring moisture enhanced leaf rust development. Under these conditions, all fungicide treatments except Bravo 720 in the early application (Fekes 8 and 10.1) significantly reduced leaf rust relative to the untreated check. Late application (Fekes 10.1 and 10.5) of ASC66811EC, ASC66792FL, Bravo 720, Tilt and ASC66792DG gave the best leaf rust control, respectively. Early application (Fekes 8 and 10.1) of ASC66792FL as well was effective as both ASC66792DG and Tilt applied late." |
