| Abstract/Contents: | Glen Heat and Irrigation of Spalding installed the new irrigation system at the Hillsborough Stadium. Installed beneath the turf are 12 pop-up sprinklers which automatically rise 6" above the surface when activated by a time controller. The underground pipes have a capacity of 150 gallons per minute. With an eye toward water conservation more Toro 600 series "valve-in-head" pop up sprinklers from Toro Irrigation are being specified for large scale fine turf irrigation systems. The valve-in-head feature means individual heads can be switched off, or each sprinkler can be programmed to operate for varying periods of time, reducing waste and the risk of overwatering. For example, sprinklers on the shaded side of a football stadium might be programmed to operate half as often as those on the sunnier and drier side of the field. Pressure regulators, standard in Toro 650, 670, 680, and 690 series valve-in-head sprinklers provides uniform operating pressure at different heights and distances from the pump. This feature also eliminates "puddling" caused by excess water running out of sprinklers postioned at the lowest levels. |
