Abstract/Contents: | One of the most charming and unique amenities offered by Marriott's Desert Springs is an 18-hole putting course. A scaled-down version of a regular golf course, it's just the ticket for a few hours of fun. The course measures 1464 feet, and is a par 54. The length of the holes varies from 52 to 135 feet. The 328 hybred bermudagrass is cut a three-sixteenths of an inch on the fairways, tees and greens, while the "roughs" are cut a one inch. Putting areas are miniaturized, measuring anywhere from 8 to 15 feet wide. The course also has a half-dozen sand traps and six small lakes. A walking path transverses the course. Grounds Superintendent Dan Gieseler estimates that about 50 rounds a day are played, but than number usually goes up on holidays to arount 150 rounds a day. It is an enjoyable diversion for both serious golfers and playful fun-seekers. |
