Abstract/Contents:Discusses the differences between natural and artificial turf surfaces. Notes that natural turf surfaces create oxygen and can have a cooling effect on the environment. States that "I believe that these [synthetic] fields do serve some purpose; however, I do feel that the cons outweigh the pros." Suggests the downsides of having artificial turf installed, such as having maintenance costs that are often unexpected, higher risk of injury, and the high cost of the removal once the lifespan of the field has ended. Notes that there are positives to having artificial turf, such as being used earlier in the year and handling heavy traffic well, but explains that "natural surfaces can handle the same traffic and have similar stress tolerance with much more environmental benefits."
