| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles the city of Waterloo, Canada, where an initiative to develop a long term plan for the cities many sports fields is being developed. Details seven goals that form the core of the strategy including improving safety and quality of fields, maximizing use of fields, developing newer fields with improved resources, enabling greater participation, increasing capacity, pursuing innovative partnerships, and investing in a better relationship "between city staff and outdoor sports organizations." Describes the scarce amount of land available for development, the city's financial constraints, and the plans to redevelop current sports fields. Provides comprehensive inventory of the cities fields, their turf types, and the amount of time booked for their use. |
