Abstract/Contents: | States that ultradwarf bermudagrasses such as TifEagle, Champion, and MiniVerde cultivars were implemented on golf courses in Florida beginning in 1997. Notes that while ultradwarf grasses have a reputation as difficult to maintain, they can be kept under a less rigorous management routine and do not require intense maintenance practices. Discusses how thatch production is no longer a concern due to increased efficiency from aeration equipment and less invasive methods of thatch control. Details concerns with the use of ultradwarf grasses, including their unknown lifespan, encroachment problems, and that ultradwarf greens are still affected by many of the same issues that are had with other cultivars, such as poor drainage, shade, and nematodes. |
