| Abstract/Contents: | Examines the events of 2012 with regard to golf courses in the United Kingdom and how they can be used to plan ahead for upcoming years. States that from January through April, drought conditions were prevalent, and were increased by a ban on hosepipe irrigation in many areas. Discusses the period of time from May to August, in which conditions became very wet due to record levels of rainfall, causing higher frequency of pitch mark damage. States that conditions began to become more dry from September to December, but this became a problem because many tournaments had to be postponed until the rain stopped, and it stopped at a time in which many golf course renovations are traditionally done. Suggests that moisture management was very important to do correctly in 2012, and that clubs should be prepared to deal with it more effectively in the future, as well as renovations to drainage systems if necessary. |
