Abstract/Contents:"The objective of this project was to evaluate Roots biostimulant for its effect on the nitrogen use efficiency of Kentucky bluegrass turf maintained as a lawn area. This study was initiated on May 5, 1989 at the Cornell University Turfgrass Field Research Laboratory in Ithaca New York. The turf was a 12-year old stand of A-34 Kentucky bluegrass that had received little care the previous three years. The turf was maintained through the year at a 1.5 inch mowing height. The treatments included four rates of nitrogen applied to plots receiving Roots, a PGR, and nothing. The treatment list is found in Table 2. Roots and PGR treatment were made on May 5, and again on September 6. Nitrogen applications were made during the first week of every month. Urea was the nitrogen source. The results of this study have demonstrated that quality and yields of turfgrasses will be strongly influenced by N rate. The application of biostimulants did little to alter the effect of nitrogen, or the growth and quality of the turf. The study, therefore, demonstrated that Roots biostimulant did not improve the nitrogen use efficiency of the turf, under the conditions that this study was conducted."
