Abstract/Contents: | Details the different factors, such as climate, soils, and grasses, that affect playing conditions on golf courses, and examines different tactics the superintendents can use to better the playing field for golfers. Explains the effects that hot summer weather has on turf and mentions that the spring, winter, and fall seasons are short lived. States that "soils in the Middle Atlantic Section are more suited to trees than to turfgrasses," and that "the cool-season grasses...grow well in early summer and in the fall but languish during the hot summer months." Lists cultivars of turf that are sufficient at surviving in the Mid Atlantic climate. |
