Abstract/Contents: | Remote infra-red thermometry of a football field covered with bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon) was recorded as a series of thermograms continuously for about 60 days under summer skies ranging from clear to overcast. Considerable variation in thermal radiance occurred during the day; very little variation occurred at night. On clear, cloudless days variations of 5 deg.C or more were common. These variations were associated with vapour clouds which intercepted solar radiation and attenuated some of it. The ecological significance of these observations is discussed. |
